Remembering The Eighties
The way we were
Journal: 23 March, 2025, morning.
I love 80s movies. And the music. I watched and listened to this video this morning and was reminded of that.
I’m not stuck there, I also like a lot of newer things, but the 80s were SO much fun. Remember The Goonies? Pretty in Pink? And this one, The Breakfast Club? Sigh. Way back in The Before Times.
And the ballads! Oh my goodness. The ballads. Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is,” and “Waiting For a Girl Like You.” U2 and “All I Want is You.” “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” Boston’s “Amanda.” It’s all subjective, of course. You probably have your own favorites. That’s one of those topics generating endless discussions, right? And they’re usually fun ones. Bill Warren Hudnall would immediately wade in, with his voluminous knowledge and endless enthusiasm. I miss him so much. Eddie Jenkins has a playlist, I’m certain.
Well. We’re older now, and wiser, and more battle scarred. So maybe it’s just nostalgia that makes them—the movies and the music—shine so brightly. Maybe I’m just missing the innocence. We weren’t, not really, but we were closer to it than we are now.
No special reason for landing on this topic. I just happened to see that video and the door opened and there I went. 🙂
Alternative viewing. That’s my FB channel. Or theme, if you want to think of it that way. I like to think that you’ll be surprised sometimes by what I share, that the things I’m interested in are wide and deep and not common, that at a minimum they won’t be boring, and that I open doors for you that you might not ordinarily even realize are there. I’m probably being optimistic here, but then I’m an optimist, so… 🙂
As Mary Oliver says so succinctly and beautifully in her “Instructions for Living a Life,” “Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.”
I do. I am. I will.
